The International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) is a global scientific society committed
to advancing extracellular vesicle research, education, and clinical application. With members
around the world, ISEV provides premier meetings, journals, and educational offerings.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Marketing and Communications Manager leads the planning and execution of ISEV’s marketing and communications activities in support of the Society’s mission and strategic plan. Working with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteer leaders, the manager develops coordinated messaging and campaigns that strengthen awareness of ISEV, support membership recruitment and retention, promote meetings and programs, and increase engagement across the Society’s global community.
The manager oversees ISEV’s communications channels and brand standards, uses performance data to recommend improvements, and serves as staff liaison to assigned committees. The role combines strategic planning with hands-on delivery and coordination across ISEV activities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
- Develop, maintain, and implement an annual marketing and communications plan aligned with ISEV’s mission, strategic objectives, membership goals, and meetings and programs.
- Advise the Executive Director and relevant committees on communications best practices, audience needs, and opportunities to increase awareness and engagement.
- Establish goals and measures for major campaigns; review performance data and recommend changes to improve membership recruitment and retention, meeting attendance, and engagement with ISEV programs.
- Plan and manage an integrated communications calendar across email, social media, the website, and other channels, coordinating with staff and volunteer leaders to ensure timely and consistent messaging.
- Manage ISEV’s social media channels, including the creation, scheduling, and evaluation of campaigns throughout the year.
- Administer website updates; monitor website analytics and user experience; and recommend improvements to content, navigation, and performance.
- Create and manage email campaigns for ISEV activities, with oversight from the Executive Director. Monitor results and use them to improve future campaigns.
- Maintain editorial, graphic, accessibility, and branding standards across ISEV communications.
- Stay current with marketing and communications tools, practices, and trends, and recommend approaches that support ISEV’s goals.
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, prepare communications project proposals and budgets, assist with approvals, and manage approved projects within budget.
- Recommend improvements to communications workflows and processes.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Communications and Membership Committee and the Global Extracellular Vesicles Network (GEVN), including preparation and distribution of meeting materials and recording of minutes.
- With the ISEV Administration and Membership Manager, develop and implement standards of practice for ISEV working groups.
- Respond to inquiries about ISEV programs and activities, including monitoring the general information email account and voicemail.
- Provide backup for the Executive Director when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong writing, editing, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt messages for scientific, member, and prospective members. Experience developing marketing plans, managing campaigns across multiple channels, and using performance data to recommend improvements. Excellent organizational skills and ability set priorities and coordinate input from staff and volunteer leaders. Experience with email marketing platforms, social media management tools, website content management systems, and analytics tools. Familiarity with tools such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact, Hootsuite or Sprout Social, WordPress, Google Analytics 4, and Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud is desirable. Ability to work collaboratively with committees and translate strategic goals into practical communications plans.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree, preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Approximately 1 week per year. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position is located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal lifting required – usually at meetings or while exhibiting. Ability to move quickly within meeting facilities.
