Mortenson is hiring a Public Relations Manager to join our dynamic team where your PR and communication expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping and elevating Mortenson’s reputation with key audiences. As a part of the corporate Communications team, you’ll lead the development and execution of strategic communications that enhance our brand visibility, support critical company initiatives, and build strong relationships with stakeholders, clients, and the public. Your work will be instrumental in positioning Mortenson as a leader in the industry, driving external engagement, and ensuring consistent, impactful messaging across all platforms.

You’ll be responsible for managing a high volume of work, ensuring timely delivery of all communications, and consistently representing Mortenson’s values and culture. Your work will be crucial in building and maintaining a positive company image, fostering collaboration, and enhancing alignment across the organization.

In collaboration with a growing communications team, you will also support and help develop and implement targeted messaging and campaigns that resonate with internal audiences. Your efforts will contribute to a cohesive, informed, and engaged workforce, ensuring our strategies are effectively communicated and embraced by the entire company.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive external strategic communications: Help lead the development and implementation of a communications plan that aligns with Mortenson’s long-term goals and enhances our external reputation and market position.

Spearhead corporate public relations efforts: Guide Mortenson's public relations strategy at the corporate level, focusing on building and maintaining strong relationships with media and industry stakeholders.

Collaborate with leadership on external messaging: Partner with Mortenson leaders to create and execute communication strategies that promote our brand and key initiatives externally, including:

  • Developing compelling content for media releases, industry reports, and public announcements.
  • Highlighting major company-wide achievements and strategic updates to the public.

Support senior leadership in external communications: Provide writing support and assist senior leaders with crafting and delivering key messages for external audiences

Enhance external news channels: Develop and maintain a pipeline of news and updates for external platforms, including the company website, social media, and industry publications, ensuring a consistent and engaging external presence.

Innovate external communication delivery: Explore and implement new channels and formats for reaching external audiences, such as social media campaigns, video content, and web-based tools. 

Help manage external crisis communications: Ensure swift and effective responses to external crises, maintaining the company’s reputation and managing media relations during challenging situations.

Evaluate external communication effectiveness: Develop and apply metrics to assess the impact of external communications strategies, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with corporate objectives.

Lead by example in external engagement: Inspire and guide team members in effective external communication practices, fostering a high-performance culture that emphasizes strategic external engagement.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or closely related specialty 
  • 7 or more years of experience in PR and Communications (ideally with a mix of both agency and relevant corporate experience) 
  • Experience with B2B and professional services highly desired 
  • Proven aptitude to develop highly effective communications programs around points of competitive advantage in a highly competitive (“me too”) industry 
  • Superior writing skills and experience writing/producing content for executive and business/operating group leaders 
  • High degree of knowledge with both traditional and emerging media 
  • Impeccable judgment 
  • Committed to fact-based decision making and ability to advise company leaders 
  • Team player, able to inspire others to act in support of the common good 
  • Excellent software skills associated with graphic design and internet site management including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop 
  • Ability to be creative, while also working within limited budgets 
  • Experience in the public relations field / previous oversight of a public relations function is highly desirable 
  • Some knowledge of the construction industry is desirable; career experience in the construction industry is not required
