Building on the momentum of the recent merger, as well as the existing Club traditions, the Membership Sales Director will take the lead on continually enhancing relationships with existing members, as well as coordinating efforts aimed at new member recruitment. The Membership Sales Director, alongside the General Manager and other key staff and ambassadors, will ensure that the University Club provides the highest level of service and quality, and relevant experiences at both locations to preserve its reputation as the most sought-after club in the greater Milwaukee area.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

Establish and maintain effective relationships with members, guests, supervisory/administrative staff, peers, and the general public. Direct and oversee the activities of the membership operation at both Club locations, including budget management and strategic planning. Manage a portfolio of existing and prospective members, maintaining a diversified set of strategies to achieve annual membership goals. Engage and effectively manage staff and volunteer ambassadors who will assist with member relations. Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations.

Maintains close relationships with members and serves on club committees. Provides notices, invitations, agendas and minutes for Club Membership Committee. Coordinates with General Manager to be sure priority members and prospects receive the attention and information they deserve in a timely manner. Effectively responds to member comments in accordance with club standards, policies and rules; uses ideas, feedback and suggestions to continuously improve the services provided to members. Greets members and has a lead presence; always cultivating relationships and making introductions with key staff and amongst members.

Member Recruitment:

Conducts tours for prospective members. Follows up on member referrals, leads from staff, catering contracts, newspaper articles, key target lists, publications, etc. Organizes production of membership kits. Reports approved new members to the Controller to initiate proper administration of their memberships; ensures that applications are completely and properly filled out, that initiation fees are collected and that new members understand the privileges and costs of becoming a member. Conducts orientation program for new members. Utilizes staff members, for example General Manager and Executive Chef, to solidify a prospective member’s interest in joining the Club. Requests active members to make personal referrals to assist with recruitment efforts.

Strategic Planning and Management:

Plans and implements strategies to meet club membership goals. Conducts routine communication with members to retain feedback on membership dues, club practices, fees, and transitions. Researches the need for ongoing sales promotions regarding demographics, market segmentation data, etc. Develops and adheres to a departmental budget; after approval, monitors and takes corrective action as necessary to be sure budget goals are met. Recruits, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates peers and Associates according to established club procedures.

Administration:

Maintain the club member database, as well as online and printed member directories. Ensures confidentiality of all member information. Develops and monitors procedures for processing members’ applications, transfers, and resignations. Responsible for transfer of club equity memberships through interaction with sales agents, attorneys and title companies on behalf of buyers and sellers. Maintain all membership reporting and tracking.

Oversees the administration of all membership rules and regulations to ensure consistency in interpretation and application. Completes other assignments made by the General Manager and Board of Directors.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sales, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related major.

Five years of relevant work experience in membership aquisition in the hospitality industry or related experience in donor engagement in the non profit sector.
