The School of Continuing Education’s Marketing Department is looking for a proactive, outgoing, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join a team of professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment. Marketing handles the overall promotion of the School and its sixteen educational departments which offer more than 1,000 programs annually to over 15,000 participants of all ages, through short courses, workshops, seminars, and certificate programs. 

The Marketing Specialist will operate within a self-directed work group and as a part of several functional teams with primary responsibilities to assist in the development, implementation, and tracking of marketing plans, integrating traditional and new media. The School of Continuing Education is located in downtown Milwaukee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a cohesive, effective and integrated strategic marketing plan for the School, including components of advertising, direct mail, electronic and online marketing, social media, research, PR and events/displays to increase awareness and build a strong brand within the UWM brand family. 
  • In partnership with the programming staff and marketing team, develop and execute marketing plans to increase registrations for specific educational areas. Includes providing ongoing creative and strategic marketing counsel. 
  • Support the creation of effective print and electronic marketing materials and campaigns by assisting with strategy development, target market identification, budget management, project scheduling and supervision, copywriting and editing support, and results tracking and analysis. 
  • Aid in growing and managing the School’s online and social media program, including: campaign organization and execution, generation and analysis of tracking reports, creation and adoption of best practices, monitoring online and social marketing trends and educating/training of programmer staff and colleagues in the latest marketing tactics. Includes online advocacy, community outreach efforts, promotions, etc. and in-depth knowledge of platforms not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube. 
  • Help maximize the effectiveness of the School’s website by utilizing web analytic data to make web updates, executing changes via CMS system, managing search engine registrations, implementing promotions to drive traffic, and coordinating efforts with campus. 
  • Help develop, maintain and enhance various results tracking systems and analyze data to make strategic recommendations and decisions. 
  • Conduct market research to monitor competition and support marketing planning. 
  • Help target market identification via research, providing new outlet recommendations, mail list development and purchase coordination. 
  • Organize the School’s participation in promotional events. 
  • Select assistance with program-specific event/conference coordination. 
  • Develop, execute and maintain creative media plans. 
  • Work closely with various UWM groups and departments to develop and implement joint marketing programs. 
  • Assist with and support School’s involvement in Milwaukee business networks to grow relationship-marketing activities. 
  • Help create, implement and monitor new processes and procedures to streamline department operations. 
  • Coordinate schedules for marketing student (and/or limited term employees); supervise students’ daily activities. 
  • Regularly utilize strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills to multi-task a variety of duties by working both independently and as part of a team; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituents. 
  • Must be a self-starter and creative planner that can work quickly, accurately, and independently under tight deadlines.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or Communications

Experience:

  • Five years experience related to the duties of this position is required.
  • Seven or more years of directly related experience - preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with integrated marketing planning and execution
  • Organizational Skills; Time and/or project management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with social marketing and email marketing
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional development

Preferred Skills:

  • Proven track record of developing and administering direct mail, email and digital integrated campaigns with ongoing marketing tracking and analysis
  • 3+ years leadership experience managing integrated social media campaigns
  • Experience in promotional events and programs, customer service, developing and monitoring budgets, and media planning and buying
  • Experience in a comparable marketing department or advertising agency
  • Copywriting/editing skills
  • Web skills, SEO
  • Excellent communication skills

 

Hiring range 3, $42,167 to $52,000; level and pay based on qualifications and experience. This position has excellent fringe benefits including four weeks annual vacation.

This is a fixed term academic staff position as a Marketing Specialist on an annual basis, 100% appointment, renewable annually.
