The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.

The Wisconsin Union is looking for a Marketing Associate Director to help take our marketing to the next level. This new position is responsible for managing and developing our team of marketing specialists, as well as working closely with the director to create strategic plans.

The Marketing Associate Director will lead on marketing for key internal accounts and activities including the Membership office, the new UW Conference and Events unit, Restaurants/Markets/Cafes, and online retail. As part of their duties with the Membership office, the Marketing Associate Director will lead on membership acquisition marketing, manage membership staff, and act as liaison with Student Affairs Advancement and Wisconsin Union Association trustees.

As part of their focus on UW Conferences and Events, the Marketing Associate Director will lead on creating the marketing strategy for associated event spaces as a leading destination for conferences. This position will work closely with the director of UW Conferences and Events and the Director of Marketing to build this new marketing program.

We are looking for a high-energy self-starter who takes initiative, develops data-driven plans, demonstrates leadership and delivers results. The person in this position must have a robust understanding of digital marketing practices (including content strategy, communications, advertising, automation, and social media).

You'll join the Wisconsin Union's Marketing, Membership & Communications team, which includes marketing specialists, communicators, graphic designers, project managers, photographers, and videographers. You will become part of a welcoming and inclusive team that values work-life balance. The Marketing Associate Director reports to the Wisconsin Union Director of Integrated Marketing and Communications and works collaboratively with both marketing and communications team members, as well as student leaders, advisors, full-time staff, and other personnel across the Wisconsin Union.

Directs the development of marketing strategy and maintains responsibility for implementing marketing plans in support of institution, unit, and/or program goals.

20% - Develops relationships, brand strategies, and marketing plans for communicating institutional information

25% - Directs marketing projects, including the design and production of internal and external publications

  5% -  Serves as an institutional representative at various events and conferences, presenting information about the institution's programs and services

25% - Develops marketing programs and campaigns that align with strategic marketing objectives of an institution, unit, and/or program

  5% - Contributes to budget development and forecasting, and approves resource allocations within budget parameters

20% - Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Education:

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Candidates with an educational background in marketing, business administration, sales and strategic communications are all common in our work, but no specific major is required.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 7+ years of professional work experience in strategic marketing, brand management, sales, account management, or related field
  • Account management experience required with a background in creating and executing strong data-driven strategic plans
  • Proven track record of accomplishments in multichannel marketing and ability to build engaging campaigns
  • Ability to develop partnerships with unit managers and understand their operations and financial status
  • Proven organizational and project management skills required including attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects and conflicting deadlines
  • Strong creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Supervisory experience and ability to manage and lead people and projects
  • Strong work ethic including an interest and ability to work as part of a team including clients, students, and other team members 

Preferred:

  • Experience in hospitality, conference, dining, member, or tourism marketing, sales, and/or strategic business planning clients
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a highly collaborative nature
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong copywriting and copyediting skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to current student concerns and interests in the University community
  • Understanding of inclusive marketing and communications with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Marketing Automation Software such as Eloqua and CRM software such as Salesforce a plus

Salary: Minimum $71,994 ANNUAL (12 months)
