This role is responsible for the Club’s regular publications, print materials, and promotional/marketing pieces. In addition to crafting clear, concise messaging and strategically using various communication platforms, candidates must have basic design and website management experience. The ability to use social media to create consistent and interesting communication for the members is crucial. A successful Marketing and Communications Manager will be able to collaborate effectively and is able to receive direction and input from a variety of stakeholder groups, including colleagues and members of the Club. This role is primarily tactical, yet it has strategic elements related to project management and evaluation for continuous improvement.

Strategic Planning and Project Management 

  • Establishes and adjusts guidelines for use of each communication channel (ie.social media, e-blasts, website, in-housepromotion) 
  • Works with club managers to ensure communication and marketing activities stay within budget. 
  • Sees projects through from start to finish and orchestrates numerous stakeholder groups to ensure superior results. 

General Communication – Print, Website, Email, Social Media

  • Leads production of the Club’s newsletter; manages content development and assigns tasks to writers, editors and others who assist; personally writes and edits newsletter articles; submits newsletter for production on a timelybasis. 
  • Collaborates with teammates to distribute the newsletter and monitor its effectivenessas a communication tool. 
  • Promotes club activities through printed materials beyond newsletter, including table tents, statement stuffers (AKA buck slips), check presenters, lobby and elevator displays, and other direct marketing.
  •  Updates menus as needed. 
  • Produces the Club’s Annual Report and annual membership directory. 
  • Establishes and maintains Club’s editorial style standards and guidelines and applies these when writing or editing.
  • Maintains website and works with Club managers to direct usage for members and staff. 
  • Continually improves website, with a specific focus on post-event coverage, photo archive and blog. 
  • In partnership with Director of Membership Sales, develops email communication (all-member blasts and targeted emails to select distribution lists) 
  • Creates and executes social media plan to promote and recap special events.

Programming

  • Tracks on Club programming and executes promotional plan per event, keeping inmind the strategic goals of programming overall which will guide prioritization. 
  • Coordinates with Front Office Manager on comprehensive calendar for easy accessibility by staff and members; ensures front desk staff has information on new events before publicity happens.

 Member Relations and Recruitment

  • Updates membership packets and all promotional pieces as needed. 
  • Assists with the creation and distribution of member satisfaction surveys; work with Director of Membership Sales to consolidate findings for public and internal reporting. 
  • Ensures all communication to members consistently represents the University Club brand and is timely, professional, and uses language which nurtures lasting relationships. 
  • Generates leads based on inquiries through social media and findings through key target lists or newspaper or other publication alerts.

Public Relations and Marketing Resources

  • Works with club leadership as needed to coordinate public relations efforts outside the club. 
  • Responsible for creating and enforcing the Club’s graphics standards, logo andvisual identity brand. 
  • Serves as liaison with external marketing resources, freelance photographers, proofreaders, print shops, and other designers when necessary 

Other

  • Completes other special projects and assignments as directed 
  • Takes photos for use in club publications. 
  • Manages archive of photos and related materials.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English, Graphic Design, or related major 
  • Website content management and social media experience preferred 
  • Hospitality experience a plus 

Qualifications

  • Proficient with English grammar and possesses strong skills in news-style writing, feature writing, copywriting, proofreading and editing. 
  • Experience with computer graphics software, including In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, and Adobe Acrobat.
