Our next Manager of Fund Development will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and relationships of fund development with the Agency’s donor constituents. The position will engage in planning fundraising events, interacting with former donors to encourage ongoing contributions, and seeking out opportunities for financial support through grants, Annual Campaign, and sponsorships. This position ensures customer and stakeholder satisfaction while networking to expand the Agency donors and funding partners.

Duties:

Donor Relations, Stewardship & Advancement

  • Achieves annual fundraising and long-term donor engagement goals for all prioritized donors and prospects ensuring that annual financial fundraising goals are met.
  • Cultivates donor relations through the entire donor cycle (prospecting, soliciting, and stewarding) and maintain donor databases.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of donors employing in-depth documentation for each assigned donor of their program interests, financial plans, volunteer involvements, family information, as well as their primary legal and financial advisers.
  • Implements a customized service plan for all assigned donors with planned tasks that focus on their interests, estate planning, and financial needs.
  • Coordinates the stewardship, cultivation, and education of donors, including key prospects and professional advisers as appropriate, through personal visits and attendance at various Agency events to further their commitment to and understanding of Agency services.
  • Initiates regular communication with donors and cultivate expanded relationships, which results in the identification of new prospective donors and advisers and includes exercising a high level of responsiveness to intake calls, emails, and letters received.
  • Ensures that all written communications with assigned donors including gift acknowledgment letters are accurate and as personalized as possible and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Supports donor engagement efforts including special events, some of which may target prospective donors, intermediaries, and existing donors.
  • Partners with the Marketing and Communications and the entire Advancement team ensuring the effective marketing and branding of donor communication pieces, as well as the distribution of press releases and other promotional materials as appropriate.

Foundation Engagement and Grant Management

  • Researches potential sources of grant funding from foundations and government sources.
  • Manages the entire grant process including the development and writing of proposals, the coordination with the agency program and subject matter experts, the submission and refinement of proposals, and the administration and reporting of any successful grants.
  • Coordinates with Finance to develop and manage grant budgets.
  • When appropriate, directly write grant, partnership, or sponsorship proposals.
  • Maintains agency monthly and annual schedules for grant applications, reports, and renewals.

Team Leadership

  • Leads assigned department personnel, which may include assisting with oversight and input into hiring, learning, scheduling, evaluating, as well as ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and the completion of all work performed by team members. 
  • Supports team members by meeting as needed to resolve problems, manage projects, track goals, and review work processes and procedures.
  • Represents team and/or department at meetings, events, and learning as needed.

Agency Engagement

  • All employees will be evaluated on their demonstration of a consistent commitment to the Agency’s Seven Essential Ingredients, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and engagement in the strategic initiatives of the organization. This will be measured by their active participation in committees and workgroups, and by their communication and practice within their daily work and in the community. 
  • Participates in assigned meetings, events and learning as required.
  • Other duties as assigned, including serving in a coverage role for other department members.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; with emphasis in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a specialized degree in Fundraising or Philanthropy preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in fundraising, development, advancement, or sales in a nonprofit environment required. 
  • Experience in securing major gifts through grants with a working knowledge of grant writing, management and administration required. 
  • Fundraising software and tools experience required, Raiser’s Edge experience preferred. 
  • Excellent writing skills with proven experience delivering high quality work required. 
  • Knowledge of philanthropy, its regulations and impact to community. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong and credible relationships with donors/clients. 
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and processes related to charitable giving and non- profit operations preferred. 
  • Proven track record as a self-starter and ability to lead successful initiatives.
  • Ability to mentor and lead;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, budgets, and schedules;
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
  • Proficient in the usage of computer software; demonstrate an understanding of computer file systems and computer software packages, e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, ADP, etc.
  • Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Physical exam, drug screen, motor vehicle report, and background checks are required for this position.
  • Valid Wisconsin state driver’s license required or reliable transportation to conduct on-site meetings and donor cultivation throughout Southeast Wisconsin.
