The primary role of the Communications Manager – Internal Lead is to oversee and implement communications plans designed to improve information and communication amongst employees, drive employee engagement and foster employee retention. The Communications Manager reports to the Senior Communications Manager and is a key leader in driving communications activities for the business. This position’s primary responsibility will be creating strategic internal communications plans and execution of plans across core company geographies. Additional responsibilities can include supporting core organizational functions to drive business goals including: employee training and HR, operational excellence (safety, innovation, project controls, etc.), regional operations, DEI and executive leadership. This person should display a strategic mindset, a high level of attention-to-detail, strong writing capabilities, and a natural ability to “see” and raise the questions that need to be asked to isolate and deliver impactful messages.

Candidates are encouraged to provide a link to a portfolio showcasing relevant work, such as writing samples, marketing materials, social media campaigns, or other relevant projects. As part of the interview process, a skills assessment may be conducted to evaluate proficiency in key areas related to the role.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Develop operational plan and strategy for internal communications programming – company-wide

  • Lead planning and execution of both short- and long-term communications efforts (internal)
  • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to advance projects effectively, collaborate on content development and uncover story ideas that support communications programs
  • Collaborating with marketing staff to integrate internal communications programming into external marketing and communications plans

Lead generation of internal communications support materials including: copy writing, conducting interviews, digital content creation, leading video capture and planning, etc. (i.e., employee storytelling, executive presentations and communications, newsletters, video testimonials and content, etc.)

Oversee Employee Intranet optimization, execution and interdepartmental engagement

Collaborate with other marketing team members, coordinating efforts, sharing best practices, contributing creative ideas, and proactively helping to provided added value through communications support

Educate and demonstrate value for internal communications efforts across key stakeholder groups

Participate in additional marketing department activities, including team meetings, professional development and training opportunities, design partner networking events, and departmental and company-wide. Lean process improvement efforts

Required:

  • Four-year college degree 
  • Experience executing internal communications programs 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, including short-form, long-form editorial and creative writing 
  • Exceptional content planning, forecasting, and campaign management skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and ability to influence without authority 
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, yet to exercise good judgment in seeking supervisory guidance when appropriate 
  • Understanding of current communication strategies and familiarity with internal communication tools including Sharepoint and Office 365 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • At least 5 years’ experience in marketing, marketing communications, communications, PR, media relations or similar role – internal communications preferred

Preferred:

  • Experience building and executing strategic internal communications programming for national organization 
  • Experience in video content creation, either writing and/or concept generation 
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with the ability to create and edit high impact visual content with consistently following brand guidelines and on-brand messaging 
  • Experience building, managing and executing communications plans via Company Intranet platform 
  • Experience training leaders on the value of communications 
  • Understanding of integrated marketing practices 
  • Ability to use analytics/data to inform decision-making 
  • Understanding of modern intranet communications practices and tactics 
  • Experience working with executive level staff on communications, event planning, ghostwriting, etc.
