RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internal Communications Strategy & Execution

  • Partner with an external communications agency to develop and implement a University-wide internal communications strategy. 
  • Establish best practices for internal communications, including how information is shared, stored, and accessed. 
  • Develop a communications calendar to bring consistency and structure to employee-related messaging. 
  • Determine the most effective communication channels (email, intranet, town halls, newsletters, etc.) and establish feedback loops to assess communication effectiveness. 
  • Craft clear, engaging, and inclusive messaging for internal announcements, leadership updates, and change initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure alignment between internal and external messaging, resulting in a consistent and cohesive University brand voice.

Strategic Partnership & Change Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing guidance on internal communication best practices. 
  • Collaborate with University leadership on key strategic initiatives, developing internal communication plans to support their success. 
  • Lead internal communication efforts for change management, ensuring employees understand and engage with institutional changes. 
  • Drive communication strategies that contribute to employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention.

Inclusion and Community Impact (ICI) & ERG Engagement

  • Support the University’s ICI culture by driving Employee Resource Group (ERG) communication and visibility. 
  • Serve as the point person for employees interested in joining ERGs, ensuring smooth onboarding and engagement.

Leadership Meeting & Special Initiatives

  • Act as the strategic lead for the Annual Leadership Meeting, defining key themes and messages. 
  • Lead the planning committee for the Leadership Meeting, working with cross-functional stakeholders

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or employee engagement. 
  • Bachelor’s in Communication, Marketing, Human Resources, or Business is strongly preferred. A combination of education and overall experience will be considered. 
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or similarly structured organizations is a plus. 
  • Proven experience developing and executing internal communication strategies within a complex organization. 
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and how communication drives organizational change. 
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and messaging skills with the ability to distill complex information into clear, engaging content. 
  • Experience managing multi-channel communication strategies (email, intranet, newsletters, live/virtual events, etc.). 
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to develop communication calendars, frameworks, and feedback loops. 
  • Ability to influence and partner with senior leaders while also working collaboratively across departments.
