The Graphic Designer is a creative and collaborative member of Blake’s Advancement team. This colleague is responsible for performing all graphic design functions related to a variety of assignments within the department as well as within the Admissions and Communications departments. The Graphic Designer leads the visual creative direction for print, digital, video and three-dimensional projects ranging from multi-page donor reports to segmented solicitationsandinvitations from digital media content to event decor. Creativity and innovation are at the forefront of each project while adhering to Blake’s style, budgets and timelines. This position is responsible for coordinating all phases of each design project. The ideal candidate possesses superb creative and project management skills.

The Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Major Gifts and works collaboratively across the school’s administrative departments. This position is 0.75 FTE with a salary range of $46,000 - $54,000 and offers flexible work hours each week between 8am-5pm.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Advancement, Admissions and Communications staff to create striking and functional pieces, including but not limited to: the donor report; twice annual magazine; all thematic elements of the yearly Blake Fund campaign; capital campaign collateral; special stewardship pieces; brochures, multi-page invitations and flyers; event signage; digital media content and campaigns 
  • Design, layout, editing and other graphic artist functions with oversight by the style guidelines and organization brand identity established by the Communications Office 
  • Coordinate administrative functions related to design projects, such as requesting print bids, providing precise specifications and instructions to mail houses, ensuring copy edits are reflected accurately, processing paperwork (e.g. purchase orders and check requests) 
  • Monitor the photo and video inventory to assess when new photography or videography is needed and handle coordination of sessions from hiring contractors to scheduling to invoicing 
  • Act as the photography manager for Advancement and school events as needed from hiring to scheduling to shoot lists 
  • Bring new ideas to design projects by advising on design trends, printing technology and emerging media 
  • Participate in school-wide activities and help represent Advancement in the life of the school

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Three-plus years of graphic design experience 
  • Knowledge and mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign) as well as MS Office tools, particularly Google suite 
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, act energetically and be an adaptable problem solver 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with varying team leads 
  • Value for intercultural competency and preference to work inclusively 
  • Proven ability to manage time and multiple projects while maintaining accuracy, timeliness and organization in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Prior knowledge and experience in development for a school or nonprofit organization 
  • Knowledge of and comfort with online and social media platforms 
  • Experience with video software 
  • Project management of photo and video sessions 
  • Skills with photography and/or videography 
  • Experience with agile workflows and methodology and workflow-management software such as Asana or similar
