Under the direction and reporting to the VP Of Marketing, Communications & Visitor Experience, the Graphic Designer designs and produces collateral materials such as advertisements, way-finding signage, posters, reports, invitations, programs, digital graphics, and more. This position is a visual storyteller who communicates important information about the museum in support of its mission and its goals. Additionally, this position uses design to bring ideas to life that inform, inspire and educate a broad audience through a variety of mediums and materials.
You will be successful in this position if you have a thorough understanding of branding and marketing, as well as expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. This role requires print production skills, utilizing the Museum's large format printer and cutter, but the Designer must also work with third-party print vendors for larger production jobs that exceed the museums capabilities. The person in this position must be able to multi-task, managing a list of projects from numerous project owners with a range of deadlines, keeping deliverables on time and on budget.
Other Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of principles and techniques utilized in commercial art industry, including printing production processes and paper stocks; knowledge of publication design, illustration, web design, photo art direction and four-color processing.
- Proficient in use of current Macintosh applications in the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator and general word processing, scanning and all aspects of pre-print production. Current on applications for design support and enhancement of website and digital initiatives. Experience with Adobe After Effects is a plus.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the marketing team.
- Dependability, flexibility, and organizational skills are a must.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills along with a commitment to non-profit organizations.
- Must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers, Museum employees and outside vendors.
- Excellent customer service is required.
