The Milwaukee Art Museum collects and preserves art, presenting it to the community as a vital source of inspiration and education. 30,000 works of art. 350,000+ visitors a year. 125 years of collecting art. From its roots in Milwaukee’s first art gallery in 1888, the Museum has grown today to be an icon for Milwaukee and a resource for the entire state. The 341,000-square-foot Museum includes the War Memorial Center (1957) designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, the Kahler Building (1975) by David Kahler, and the Quadracci Pavilion (2001) created by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Central to the Museum’s mission is its role as a premier educational resource, with educational programs that are among the largest in the nation, involving classes, tours, and a full calendar of events for all ages.

Conceive, design and produce leading edge printed and internet-based materials for a world class museum.

Conceive, design and produce leading edge printed and internet-based materials in consultation with the Senior Designer for all areas of visual communication representing the museum, including exhibition and program graphics, gallery guides, short-term exhibition branding programs, advertisements, web banners, museum brochures, the Member Magazine, and other collateral. Actively maintain the museum brand across all materials.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal clients to concept, design and produce a wide variety of internal and external museum materials from entire marketing campaigns (ads, rack cards, banners, media kits) to exhibition signage and graphics.
  • Conceive, design, produce, and independently managing projects, as well as deadlines, from inception through printing.
  • Works with the design and marketing staff, curators, and project managers throughout the museum to ensure that projects are completed on time and within set budgets.
  • Requires knowledge of printing process and web design.
  • Remain current on design software and current industry trends and developments.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • College Degree in Art/Design and Post Graduate.
  • Advanced skills in design software, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, web applications.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a professional design environment.
  • Prior museum experience is a plus.
  • Online portfolio required for review.
