As a member of the Advancement Department, the Grant Writer/Copy Writer is responsible for cultivating foundation, community, and corporate fundraising strategies to further the mission of Groves Learning Organization and craft inspiring copy that attracts and retains donors, board members, and volunteers.

These activities include writing, preparing, submitting, tracking, and managing the following components: letters of intent, applications, reports, acknowledgments, and grant agreements. This role is also responsible for researching and identifying institutional funding prospects and qualifying prospects through evaluation, outreach, and submission of LOI’s. This position will also play a pivotal role in driving engagement through writing copy that aligns with our brand voice and resonates with donors, board members, and volunteers.

This position is a hybrid position requiring three days in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Writer 75%

  • With the Advancement Team, create a yearly fundraising plan and an annual work plan to seek and acquire funding to support institutional priorities. 
  • Serves as primary proposal developer and manager, working across departments to source required attachments. 
  • Work with the Advancement Team to understand funding needs and develop applications that best reflect the work and needs of the organization. 
  • Partnering with the Advancement Team in effectively managing the organization’s key funding relationships. 
  • Coordinate, write, and submit funding applications to foundations, corporations, and other organizations. 
  • Ensure all applications and reports are properly submitted. 
  • Track grants and information updates in Raiser’s Edge database and maintain other files as needed. 
  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming applications and reports in Raiser’s Edge. 
  • Research potential funding sources. 
  • Participate as an active member of the Advancement team. 
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Copy Writer 25%

  • Assist in the ideation and creation of a variety of print and digital projects. 
  • Prepare written communication for the Advancement Team including: Newsletters, thank you letters, gift announcements, solicitation materials, case statements. 
  • Edit and proofread content materials. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather stories and materials to engage donors and volunteers.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in research and grant writing; experience in education a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals 
  • Clear, precise and compelling writing skills and copyediting. 
  • High attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, listening, and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities, including developing relationships with faculty, students, parents, and staff members. 
  • Able to embrace the Mission of Groves Academy and work effectively and collaboratively 
  • High proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel. 
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work unsupervised, make high-level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively. 
  • Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
