PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio seek a strategic and creative Director of Marketing and Communications to lead a highly creative and award-winning team to elevate the brands, increase audience engagement, and communicate the value of Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin across the state. This position serves in a leadership capacity for both brands and will support strategic planning and direction of the future of public media in the state of Wisconsin. The Director will create and execute comprehensive, integrated, multi-platform, marketing and communications strategies across broadcast, print, digital, and social media platforms, driving innovation that enhances engagement and grows audience. Our ideal candidate is a highly collaborative leader who can partner effectively, lead and mentor a team with a strong focus on fresh thinking and experimentation, and has a track record of driving successful comprehensive marketing and communications strategies. By leveraging data analytics and audience insights, the Director will identify and address opportunities and risks, measure effectiveness, and refine strategies to maximize impact. In addition, this position is responsible for leading comprehensive strategic communications to engage external and internal stakeholders including the public, employees, Boards and partners. The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as a spokesperson for PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio, leading media relations and public relations.

Directs communications strategic planning, and execution. Provides approval and guidance for communications including staffing and budgetary planning in support of communication goals.

  • 25% - Develops, implements, and monitors strategic communication initiatives for designated audiences and internal stakeholders to maximize engagement and strengthen collaboration efforts
  • 15% - Identifies, establishes, and directs media relationships and partnerships with internal and external sources
  • 10% - Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revived operational policies and procedures
  • 15% - Audits and directs day-to-day operational plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives
  • 15% - Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 15% - Develops and leads comprehensive marketing campaigns including the development of tactical plans, creative approaches, timelines and budgets, and leads research-based, market and data-driven outcome evaluation
  • 5% - Serves in a leadership capacity for both PBS Wisconsin and WPR. Participates in development and implementation of strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, communications or digital media strategy including leading the creation and execution of strategic marketing and communication plans, campaigns, timelines and budgets.
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership in coaching, directing, managing or supervising staff. Experience providing effective feedback in a manner that inspires staff growth.
  • A strategic and creative mindset with a strong focus on fresh thinking and experimentation.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively and creatively deliver presentations, communicate with multiple stakeholders, and work tactfully and effectively with staff, board members, donors, partners or volunteers.
  • Proven ability to interpret data and analytics to inform strategy and measure effectiveness while staying up to date on emerging tactics and continuously testing new approaches to improve results.
  • Excellent attention to detail including detail-oriented editing skills.
  • Deep understanding of digital and social media platforms with demonstrated success in building awareness and brand identity across multiple platforms. Conversant on emerging communication technologies, audience behaviors, and trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, establish priorities, organize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience creating and maintaining community partnerships.
  • Experience in public television, public radio or a not-for-profit mission-driven organization.
  • Experience creating or implementing advocacy messaging and strategies.

Expected minimum annual salary for this position is $110,000.
