General Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading and developing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to elevate the organization’s brand, increase awareness of our mission, and drive engagement with our stakeholders. This role requires a visionary leader with a strong background in both traditional and digital marketing, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of the non-profit sector.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to advance the organization’s mission and goals. 
  • Oversee all marketing campaigns, including digital, print, and event marketing. 
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Manage the organization’s brand to ensure consistency and integrity across all marketing and communication materials. 
  • Maintain brand standards and ensure compliance across all marketing and communications channels. 
  • Create and execute a comprehensive communications plan, including media relations, internal communications, and crisis communications. 
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of press releases, newsletters, and external partners to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation. 
  • Lead the development and management of the organization’s digital presence, including website, social media platforms, and email marketing. 
  • Create engaging content that drives audience interaction and supports donations, sales, fundraising, and advocacy efforts. 
  • Monitor trends in digital marketing and social media, making recommendations for new initiatives and improvements. 
  • Lead, develop and mentor marketing and communications team. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. 
  • Manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective strategies and practices. 
  • Partner with leadership team and functional area managers to create strategies and implement tactics to support business goals. 
  • Create and manage strategies for fund development: identify opportunities for individual and corporate gifts. 
  • Participate in organizational planning sessions regarding major program changes, additions or deletions to help identify potential brand or operational impacts. 
  • Ability to lead the marketing automation processes/workflows and directing database management/growth. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media, and content creation. 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 
  • Ability to develop and implement marketing plans, evaluating segment database information and market via multiple channels. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Passion for our mission and a commitment to advancing our cause. 
  • Hubspot/CRM expertise is preferred. 

Travel Required: Ability to travel up to 40 %. 

Required education and/or work experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 7-10 years’ experience in marketing and communications, preferably within the non-profit sector. 
  • Leadership experience in media relations and serving as an organizational spokesperson.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful marketing and communications strategies.
