United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County (UWGMWC) is currently seeking a motivated, independent professional for the position of Direct Marketing Specialist – Community Gifts. This is a seasonal position which begins September 23, 2024, and continues until January 17, 2025.

The Direct Marketing Specialist – Community Giving role is a temporary position that supports UWGMWC staff in soliciting contributions from those in the Community Giving division, Gifts range from $500-$4999. Calls will be made from United Way offices or remotely from home September through January.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of Account Manager, Leadership and Community Gifts, make calls to renewal and lapsed donors, approximately 500 calls or 15-20 hours per week. 
  • Accurately record pledges, updated contact information and pertinent call notes on UWGMWC documentation. 
  • Provide weekly transmittal of information to appropriate staff for timely account maintenance and statement processing. 
  • Attend initial training session. 
  • Attend weekly meetings with Account Manager, Leadership and Community Gifts

PERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work during afternoon / early evening hours (1pm to 7pm) as needed Monday through Friday. 
  • Must be comfortable making calls and soliciting for funds. 
  • Must be able to maintain professionalism, sensitivity and compassion with all donors, many of whom are seniors, and are often loyal United Way contributors. 
  • Ability to represent United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County with a consistently professional phone manner and maintain client confidentiality at all times. 
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. 
  • Affinity with the mission and vision of UWGMWC.

EDUCATION AND/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education (GED) with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in sales, fundraising, campaign, or similar role. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
