Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Optum Communications’ teams to advance the strategies within the designated line of business (LOB) teams represent 
  • Strategic communications counsel, content development and brand guidance for main team communication channels (intranet articles, mass communication) 
  • Edit, review and make recommendations for channel content to ensure AP Style and content clarity before placing approved final content in channels 
  • Oversee projects from start to finish, managing timelines and making sure all aspects of projects are delivered smoothly and on time 
  • Coordinate town hall logistics, including scheduling, distributing invitations, day-of event support and post-event duties 
  • Maintain intranet business pages for designated LOBs 
  • Assist with editorial exploration and story mining 
  • Monitor Optum Communications mailbox, coordinating responses 
  • Partner with LOB Communications team to ensure mass communication distribution lists are accurately maintained 
  • Oversee the publication and distribution of digital signage to all Optum geographies 
  • Learn multiple channel platforms for executing, editing and managing projects 
  • Demonstrate excellent people skills

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of corporate communications, public relations or journalism experience 
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines 
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) 
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies 
  • Demonstrated solid writing and editing skills to effectively collaborate with team members 
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrated solid organizational skills and ability to self-manage projects 
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, the ability to understand the relationships and interconnections among projects, and logistics management are crucial success factors 
  • Proven ability to navigate across a complex organization to find information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, public relations, English or journalism 
  • Experience in the health care industry 
  • Proven to be customer service oriented — listening, understanding and problem-solving skills
